I’m Mary and this is Artful, my magazine and blog about art, craft, history and culture.

Artful Magazine began in 2024 after I completed a course in Art History and Renaissance Culture at the Warburg Institute in London. With no more essays to write, I started to research a number of topics that caught my interest and the result was the first issue of Artful Magazine. I have always been fascinated by how things are made, and where they come from, and I am frequently delighted by the discoveries and connections that arise when looking into the people, places and events behind both monumental works of art, or the crafts we practise at home. 

If you feel at home in art shops stocked floor to ceiling with paints and brushes, you find yourself enchanted by old libraries, and inspired by workshops, artisans and the beauty of what people can make, you’re sure to like it here.
